The Last Act of Love We Have to Give

I used to think grief was the sadness

That came over you after the loss of someone you love

And if you push really hard, you get through to the other side

I know now that there is no other side

There is no big push,

There is absorption

There is acceptance

Grief is not something you get through

But something you endure

It is not a task to finish,

But a change deep in your soul,

An alteration of your being,

A unique way of seeing,

A new definition of self
